Dos and Don’ts for International Observers

What Observers should Do:- Attend Monitors’ Briefing Familiarize yourself with Political context, Election Laws & Procedures Familiarize yourself with the Contents in your Docket Identify your Interpreter Get your Deployment Information Ensure that you have contact Information – At the District Level and at the National Level Carry your passport with you at all times Keep valuables, money,/TCs and Air ticket in safe Custody Cary a reasonable amount of local currency for personal use When on monitoring duty, wear PAFFREL identification – Badges, Hats and Arm bands Upon Arrival at Deployment Point, Contact Local PAFFREL Coordinator Indicate your Special Dietary or other Requirements to the local PAFFREL Co-coordinator Identify Local PAFFREL team you are assigned to Ensure your interpreter is with you Be Impartial, Objective and Non Partisan at All times Consult local PAFFREL teams to decide observation arrears on election day If you encounter violence, follow the instructions of your local PAFFREL team leader, give priority for your security Withdraw from a violent situation to safety before deciding on collective action Record your observation at all times and collect any supporting evidence when possible Record any interventions made by you and your team Ask your interpreter for all relevant information Provide comprehensive reports of your observation Be credible, neutral, objective all the time
