Local Tsunami Recovery Facility with CIDA (21st May 2008)

In collaboration with Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), PAFFREL launched a project to cover an important aspect of tsunami affected citizens in selected four districts. This project is named as Local Tsunami Recovery Facility. This project is consisting number of activities that will be carried out in Matara, Hambantota, Batticaloa and Ampara districts. Following are the major activities that PAFFREL undertake under this project.  

• Workshops for elected members of local authorities and officials

• Establishment of Citizens’ Committees

• Skills development workshops for officials of government institutions

• Mobile secretariats to issue NICs, birth certificates etc.

• Workshops on Human Rights

• Workshops on Peace-building, Reconciliation and Peaceful Co-existence

• Youth Exchange Programmes

• Development of Women’s Committees

• Workshops on Prevention of Human Trafficking and Other Abuses

The project is schedule to be completed by December 2008.
